Summer Happenings

I am learning how to stay home.
Learning to be content right here.
To use what we have and to love what we have.
and purge the rest.

I've been home with the boys for two weeks now.
And there is nothing that Jack would rather do than be home and play.
It's me who starts climbing the walls by 10:00 AM.
But I'm getting better.
and we're getting really good time together.

And the curls had to go.
I had three people tell me what a pretty little
girl he was in one week. I knew it was time.
He's such a little boy now.

This little guy turned one.
And I threw a party for me.
Because I made it through the first year. (wahoo.)
I love babies, but they are hard and exhausting and
I love this little one year old age.
I might just be able to freeze him right here.

We are back to the budget.
Painful, but necessary if I want to keep
being able to work part time. which I do. forever.
It feels really good to know that
we are living within our means.

Our Summer Budget:
1. Cash only.
2. Shop with a list.
Stick to the list.
3. Don't step foot in Target.
4. Stay close to home.
5. Make up fun free stuff to do.
6. Listen to Dave.
7. Use what we have.
8. Love what we have
where we are
right now.

Art is at a stand still.
I've lost my mojo.
Life is full to the brim right now.
I don't know what the deal is,
but I just  have no desire right now.
I've been reading this book again.
And it always rocks my world.
In the swing. In the morning. With coffee.
Sweet time.
I'm stuck on Psalm 34 right now.
 It's rocking my world.

And reading this.
It's good. It's making me think.

And this.
Love Mati Rose.
And this with the
creative book club.
Summer is going by way too fast!
Enjoy.

Life happens...

The trick is to enjoy life.
Don't wish away your days,
waiting for better ones ahead.
Marjorie Pay Hinckley

Summer starts for me and the boys next week.
This Friday is my last day of school, and then
all hell breaks loose
summer fun begins.

I'm nervous.
We are just now settling into our schedule, finding our rhythm, and
things are getting better and easier and more fun.

And now... no school, no preschool, no swimming lessons.
no structure.
wha?!?!?

My summer challenge:
fun and free adventures.
I think I can.
I think I can.
I think I can.

I'm working on the summer list.
Which actually gets me more excited about summer.

Nonnegotiables:
We will get outside.
We will have fun.
I will play on the floor for extended periods of time.
will keep my computer closed until Josh's afternoon nap.
We will find our rhythm.
We will have good days and bad days.
I will be exhausted.
I will be thankful for this time.
 It will fly by.
will miss it when it's gone.

We have this little lake up the street, so close to us.
I need to get the boys outside and walk around it daily.

After hours...
I've been sewing pretty much everything I can get my hands on.

I sewed this little journal to watercolor

and I'm a little obsessed with this primed unstretched canvas.
The uses for this are endless.
Seriously, you can paint your own fabric.
Yes, you heard me...
PAINT YOUR OWN STINKIN' FABRIC!!!
my dream come true.
why didn't I think of this sooner?

You don't have to spend a million dollars + shipping
and order it on the internet or drive all the way to the fabric store
and wait in crazy lines with two little boys.
You can make it.
Don't worry, I will show you.
I have about 24 tutorials for this stuff
going on in my head right now.

This guy is my hero. Seriously.
I don't know what "disability" he has,
but he knows how to worship the Lord.
And He teaches us all.
with unabashed enthusiasm.
He is always there with such sweet sincerity and selflessness.
Not worried about what anyone will think.
He's just in the moment, giving what he has to God.
I get convicted every time.
This is a GREAT sermon on marriage.
Um, does he have a hidden camera in our house?
So true. So real. So funny.
Just listen.

Listening

I couldn't think of one little word this year,
but, after reading this book
I knew I wanted to be more intentional
about being quiet and listening.

I started carrying this big drawing journal with
me to church. I've been asking God to
open my ears to help me hear what I need to hear
open my eyes to help me see His truth clearly
open and soften my heart to help me accept His truth
and change me.

and I've tried to choose just one word or phrase
or idea from the sermon and doodle it each week, so maybe it'll stick.
some weeks I do, some weeks don't.

As I was flipping through my journal, looking for a free page
I was so thankful to have a record of God's truth.
A reminder of God's fierce faithfulness to me.
He always shows up. Every single time.
Even when I think he didn't... turns out, he did.

38 For I am convinced
that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,
neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,
39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation,
will be able to separate us from the love of God
that is in Christ Jesus
our Lord.
Romans 8:38-39

It's been a marathon two weeks...
insane in the membrane crazy. I'm exhausted.
And to top it off, unbeknownst to me,
